Next Steps - Summer Dance Intensive Online

 July 6th - 10th, 2020

The School of Theatre and Dance at James Madison University is proud to partner with DanceWorks Chicago (DWC) to present, Next Steps – Summer Dance Intensive, a 5-day online dance intensive designed specifically for committed and curious students ages 13 – 19. Participants will study with nationally and internationally recognized artists and experts in the field and will gain real-world experience being coached in repertory from a professional dance company! To allow for focused and individual interactions between dancers and faculty, only 16 dancers will be accepted to the program. The intensive will be held on Zoom. 

Dancers will engage in:

  • Daily online technique classes (Ballet, Modern, Jazz, Musical Theater), taught by JMU Dance Faculty and members of DWC, including the Artistic Director
  • Daily online rehersals of the rate in which I am, by Joshua Manculich, part of DanceWorks Chicago repertoire
  • Professional Development seminars, including audition preparation, Pilates/self-care, entrepreneurship in the arts
  • Culminating online showing of the work, open to family and friends

The cost for the intenstive is $200.00 total. Registration closes July 1st. 

Monday, July 6th - Friday, July 10th from 11:00am to 2:00pm EDT. The daily schedule of the intensive will be as follows....

  • 11:00am to 12:00pm - 60 minute techniqe class
  • 12:00pm to 12:15pm - 15 minute break
  • 12:15pm to 1:00pm - Repertory rehersal with Imani English of DWC
  • 1:00pm to 1:15pm - 15 minute break
  • 1:15pm to 2:00pm - Professional development seminar

EXTRAS!

  • Q & A session for dancers with current JMU dance major Tory Stroker (Registered Dietician)
  • Q & A session for parents, caregivers, dance teachers with JMU and DWC representatives

Space is limited to 16 participants. There is no audition and the intensive will be filled on a first-come first-serve basis.
