First Learning Centers Employee Showcase

 Exhibition Start: Spring 2025

The second exhibition in the LC Micro-Gallery was a showcase of artwork created by current LC students, faculty, and staff. The LC took joy in celebrating the creativity of our employees through photo prints depicting work spanning the mediums of photography, oil painting, and fiber art.

First Featured Artist: Yulin Yuan

Exhibition Start: Fall 2024

Yulin Yuan was the first featured artist for the LC Micro-Gallery space. She is a Chinese-Born South African artist who received her MFA from JMU after obtaining her BFA from the University of Cape Town. Yuan's work explores identity, mythology, family history, and community through a multimedia artistic approach featuring collage, video, and photography. The selections from her "EGG of Chaos" art series featured photographed self-portraits staged to represent traditional Chinese mythological stories and characters using found objects and locations in volunteer's homes. The series remixes intimate spaces and emphasizes solace, belonging, and mythmaking within complex, multilayered identities. The LC was privileged  to display this work that represents the beauty and possibility of blending cultural knowledge as we strive to be a source of support for multilingual and international students as they navigate higher education.
