James Madison University invites applications for the position of Honor Council Coordinator, a unique leadership opportunity for a dedicated professional who is passionate about student development, academic integrity, and institutional excellence.

Applications will be accepted until October 1, 2026. Review of applications will begin on October 13, 2026.

This position is open to full-time instructional faculty or A&P faculty currently employed by JMU in either the Division of Academic Affairs or the Division of Student Affairs and is a 12-month, stipend-supported appointment. The appointment includes one-course release each academic year. For the 2026-27 academic year, the course release will occur in Spring 2027. This is a supplemental position, and all Honor Council Coordinator responsibilities are performed in addition to the employee's current position.

About the Role

The Honor Council Coordinator serves as the university's primary leader and advisor for the Honor System, partnering with students, faculty, administrators, and university leadership to uphold the principles of academic integrity that are central to the JMU experience. This position provides strategic oversight of the Honor Council while helping the institution navigate emerging challenges and opportunities.

The coordinator works closely with the student-led Honor Council Executive Board, oversees the administration of Honor Code processes, supports investigations and hearings, and serves as a trusted resource to the campus community on matters related to academic integrity. The Honor Council Coordinator is also guided by the Honor Council Advisory Board, a presidential committee charged to exercise various responsibilities in connection with the operation of the university’s honor system.

The Honor Council is housed in the Student Academic Success office of Academic Affairs, and this position reports to the Assistant Vice Provost for Academic Student Services.

Key Responsibilities

The Honor Council Coordinator will:

Provide strategic leadership for the Honor System

• Lead the administration, assessment, and continuous improvement of JMU's Honor System.
• Serve as a campus resource on academic integrity, emerging educational practices, and related policy issues.

Advise and develop student leaders

• Mentor the Honor Council Executive Board and support the recruitment, training, and development of student investigators and council members.

Oversee case review and resolution processes

• Guide the investigation, review, and resolution of alleged Honor Code violations while ensuring fairness, consistency, and adherence to due process.

Partner with campus stakeholders

• Collaborate with faculty, administrators, and university leaders to strengthen academic integrity initiatives, provide consultation, and support educational outreach efforts.

Manage operations and reporting

• Oversee case administration, records, communications, and reporting functions that ensure the effective operation of the Honor System.

Selection Process

The successful candidate will be selected by the Provost's Office and approved by the JMU Honor Council Advisory Board.
