The Department of History at James Madison University pursues the rigorous, open, and honest discussion of the past. As scholars, we commit to uncovering histories of diversity and of marginalization. We develop methods and knowledge through a critical interpretation of evidence, enabling a comprehensive understanding of continuity, change, and complexity in our world. Our classrooms and other collaborative spaces welcome members of our JMU community of different gender identities, races, ethnicities, sexualities, physical and learning abilities, ages, nationalities, religious beliefs and non-beliefs, and socioeconomic backgrounds. We are committed to creating an equitable learning and research community that upholds the dignity and respect of all individuals.
