Geologic Designer
GFT Infrastructure, Pittsburgh, PA
October 2026
I work as a geologist at GFT, an engineering firm, within a division specializing in landslide remediation, specifically making sure power lines don’t collapse due to landslides. My work involves all steps of the remediation process. This includes conducting geological and historical background research on the surrounding area, site visits to unique, often restricted areas, and using computer programs to model potential future failures. Additionally, my work includes supervising the construction of the actual slope remediation design by engineers and relaying important environmental conditions to construction teams and clients as the geoprofessional on-site. This work is interesting and important, as you get to see a lot of cool places, while working with the electrical backbone of the U.S.
