Our mission is to provide JMU students with the knowledge, skills, and dispositions needed for career readiness.
We prepare Geology majors for professional geoscience employment and graduate school. Through courses and mentored research, this major focuses on developing field, laboratory and computational skills to meet societal resource needs (e.g., critical minerals, soil, water) and to mitigate geologic hazards (e.g., earthquakes, landslides, floods, volcanic eruptions, climate change).
We prepare Environmental Earth Science majors to advocate for the environment in government and private sector employment or to teach Earth science. Through courses and mentored research, this major encourages scientific problem-solving and interdisciplinary approaches toward environmental challenges.
Through our General Education courses, we prepare all students to observe and interpret the natural world and to understand earth processes and human-environment interactions.
