I manage several analytical research facilities for the Department of Geosciences at Virginia Tech, including an electron microprobe (EPMA) lab, an X-ray fluorescence (XRF) lab, and a laser ablation inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry (LA-ICP-MS) lab, alongside our rock sample preparation and petrology spaces.  In this role, I maintain state-of-the-art instrumentation and help students and researchers analyze the chemical makeup of rocks, minerals, and environmental samples.  I also get to share my passion for the geosciences by teaching university classes on microprobe analysis and volcanic processes.
