As a geologist in geotechnical consulting, no two days seem to ever be the same, but I primarily work in the transportation sector. My field season so far has included 45 days in Yellowstone National Park logging soil and rock core samples. This work is critical to informing the realignment of several park entrance roads, which were destroyed by severe flooding in 2022. In addition to core logging, my recent projects have involved mapping active landslides across Yellowstone and also North Dakota, as well as performing a reconnaissance survey and geologic mapping on the Beartooth Highway. Looking to the future, I am evaluating a potential collaborative drone landslide monitoring initiative alongside Theodore Roosevelt National Park and the North Dakota Department of Transportation. I’m proud to be part of a firm that specializes in solving complex geological problems for critical infrastructure in remote locations.
