The Gandhi Center's 20th Anniversary Celebration was held during the 4th annual JUSTPEACE week in celebration of the International Day of Peace on September 21.

The theme for JUSTPEACE 2025 was "Justice & Migration." The Beitzel Symposium September 24 featured presentations from scholars and practitioners in the community, and included a visit to the Grace Street Gallery in Duke Hall to view the interactive and participatory Hostile Terrain 94 exhibit.

The Hostile Terrain 94 exhibit was made possible by the generous support of various units across the university, including: JMU Libraries, Office of Creative Propulsion, Community Engagement & Volunteer Center, Latin American, Latinx and Caribbean Studies, and the Departments of Justice Studies, Sociology and Anthropology, Political Science, and World Languages & Cultures. Special thanks to the School of Art, Design and Art History and the Office of Creative Propulsion for use of space to host the exhibit.

The 20th anniversary banquet dinner on Thursday, September 25th honored the advisory board, past Directors, and other center affiliates since 2005. During the ceremony, the new name of the center was formally introduced and will be official on approval of the new charter.

The Center for Global and Community Justice (CGCJ) looks forward to 20 more years of centering justice in our education, scholarship, and engagement missions.
