The Gandhi Center's 4th annual JUSTPEACE program kicks off with an open house on Monday, September 22nd, in celebration of the International Day of Peace on September 21. This year we are also celebrating the 20th anniversary of the center, which opened in 2005.
Peace, love and breakfast (free!) will be served buffet style in Darcus Johnson Hall from 9-11 and lunch (free!) will be served from 12-2 or until gone.
The theme for JUSTPEACE 2025 is "Justice & Migration." The Beitzel Symposium September 24 will feature presentations from scholars and practitioners in the community, and include a visit to the Grace Street Gallery in Duke Hall to view the interactive and participatory Hostile Terrain 94 exhibit.
The Hostile Terrain 94 exhibit was made possible by the generous support of various units across the university, including: JMU Libraries, Office of Creative Propulsion, Community Engagement & Volunteer Center, Latin American, Latinx and Caribbean Studies, and the Departments of Justice Studies, Sociology and Anthropology, Political Science, and World Languages & Cultures. Special thanks to the School of Art, Design and Art History and the Office of Creative Propulsion for use of space to host the exhibit.
All events are free to attend for faculty, staff, and students. Stop by during our open house to find out more, check out our free library, and grab some food.
