JMU’s Exchange Programs let you study at a partner university abroad while paying JMU. You’ll take classes with local students and experience a new culture firsthand. This section covers the key steps and financial aid details to help you prepare.
Disbursement of Funds
Financial aid funds will be disbursed and pay any outstanding charges on the student’s JMU account after they have started classes at the host institution. Any excess funding (if applicable) will be refunded to the student and/or the student’s parents to be used to pay any charges with the host institution.
Please note, payment will not be sent from JMU to the student’s host institution.
Necessary Forms
In order for funds to disburse, the following items must be completed and received by JMU:
Transfer Credit Approval form
- Must contain all necessary signatures.
- The form can be found on the Office of Registrar’s website here.
Summer Financial Aid Application (if attending a program in the summer semester) must be submitted to the Office of Financial Aid and Scholarships.
- This form will be available here when summer registration begins.
Enrollment Verification form
This form is sent to the student by the Office of Financial Aid and Scholarships approximately a month before the semester abroad begins.
- This form must be completed with a program representative at the student’s host institution AFTER the student begins the courses.
- Completed forms must be sent to the Office of Financial Aid and Scholarships (contact information on the bottom of the form) by the host institution.
- The courses listed on the Enrollment Verification form must match the Transfer Credit Approval form and contain at least 12 approved credits for the fall/spring semesters or 6 approved credits for the summer semester.
Mismatches between the Enrollment Verification form and the Transfer Credit Approval form will cause delays in aid disbursing.
Required items will be added to a student's To-Do list in MyMadison as a reminder.
