Instructor

Adérito R. Vicente is a PhD researcher in Department of Political and Social Sciences (SPS) at the European University Institute (EUI). He holds a B.A. in Political Science and International Relations, and a M.A. with distinction in International Relations from the Universidade Nova de Lisboa (NOVA).

His areas of research interest include European foreign and security policy, nuclear weapons policies, U.S. foreign policy and transatlantic relations. His academic research is focused on the role of the EU’s foreign policy in the field nuclear disarmament and non-proliferation. During his doctoral studies, he served as a researcher for the ‘Europe in the World Programme’, part of the Global Governance Programme at the Robert Schuman Centre for Advanced Studies.

He was also a Visiting Scholar at the James Martin Center for Nonproliferation Studies (CNS), Middlebury Institute of International Studies at Monterey. He held professional and research positions at the European Parliament, NATO, the Lisbon University Institute, the Portuguese Presidency of Council of Ministers, and at the Disarmament and Non-Proliferation Division of the Portuguese Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Furthermore, he has diplomatic experience as Political Officer at the European External Action Service (EEAS).

Adérito R. Vicente is currently teaching topics in European Union foreign policy and internal security at James Madison University in Florence, Italy.
