English - Sigma Tau Delta

Sigma Tau Delta
Sigma Tau Delta is the International English Honors Society. JMU’s Psi Sigma chapter of Sigma Tau Delta sponsors a Valentine-Grams Event in February and hosts an annual Spring conference for undergraduate papers.
Do you currently have a overall GPA of 3.0 and a 3.0 in English? If you meet these qualifications and are interested in becoming a member of Sigma Tau Delta, print out this application and return the completed form and required documentation to 215 Keezell. You may also email applications to the faculty advisor to JMU's Sigma Tau Delta chapter, Dr. Sharon Cote.
Sigma Tau Delta is international in scope and has existed for nearly 100 years. If you are receiving this message, Sigma Tau Delta’s vision, “Transforming the World with Words” probably resonates with you.
Acceptance into Sigma Tau Delta is not only a lifetime academic honor but also an opportunity to contribute to that mission both on our campus and in our larger community while you’re here at JMU. Membership in Sigma Tau Delta also offers scholarship and publishing opportunities and the chance to participate in a members-only national conference with prestigious invited speakers.
While our chapter has sadly had to curtail most of its on-campus activities in the last two years, we are now anxious to become an even bigger and more diverse and inclusive presence at JMU than ever before, and we’re hopeful we will be able to move forward in the year ahead. To this end the English Department has set aside funds to help subsidize the one-time Sigma Tau Delta membership fee this year (first priority to English majors and minors but not necessarily restricted). Our own Psi Sigma chapter charges no additional membership dues, and the chapter is a recognized JMU student organization, eligible to apply for student organization funds to support its activities each year.
As an undergraduate, if you meet the core academic requirements of (1) at least a 3.0 GPA in English coursework (with a minimum of two courses completed here) and (2) a minimum of three semesters of undergraduate coursework completed (3) with at least a 3.0 GPA overall, and (4) have a JMU English professor willing to support your application, then you are welcome to apply for membership!
The application is currently available either at the English Department or from me. More details will be available soon through the JMU English department’s Sigma Tau Delta link as well as at the upcoming Zoom information session.
You are also welcome to contact me with questions (cotesa@jmu.edu).
Sincerely,
Prof. Sharon Cote
