Digital humanities, digital libraries, and community-based archives; Nineteenth-century literature, material culture, and textual criticism; Machine learning and environmental humanities in the context of climate change, indigenous ways of knowing, and the history of the book.

Bio & Curriculum Vitae

Dr. Nowviskie is Dean of Libraries and Professor of English at JMU. She was previously the Executive Director of the Digital Library Federation, a CLIR Distinguished Presidential Fellow, president of the Association for Computers and the Humanities, chair of the MLA’s Committee on Information Technology, and both a research faculty member in the Department of English at the University of Virginia and the founding director of the Scholars’ Lab at UVa.
