Professor Emerita Joan Frederick taught in the Department of English from 1973 to 2009. She specialized in courses on Herman Melville, Nathaniel Hawthorne, John Updike, and Advanced Composition. She was Faculty Member in Residence for JMU’s Semester in London program, and a longtime member, and Treasurer, of the College English Association. Professor Frederick was a recipient of the JMU Distinguished Teaching Award.
