Welcome to the College of Science and Mathematics at JMU!

Here in the CSM, our students learn science and mathematics in state-of-the-art laboratories and classrooms, side by side with our outstanding professors. Our mission is simple: we teach the skills of scientific discovery for an engaged community of learners and scholars.

At JMU, students are at the center of everything we do. In the CSM, that means ensuring that every student, wherever they come from and whatever they seek to do, has access to the best learning experience we can provide. Students are the core of our community, and their dedication and hard work inspires us to set a high bar for academic excellence in the college.

We offer a full spectrum of majors and minors because we know that students are selective about their course of study.  Whether it’s developing the foundational scientific skills you’ll need for medical training, preparing to be a high school mathematics teacher, or following your lifelong love of research, our programs will provide you with the challenge and support you need to succeed.

CSM professors recognize their role in preparing students for success in the fast-paced environment of our nation’s scientific sector. We offer excellent facilities right on campus where students learn the latest techniques through hands-on experience. Our faculty are active in research collaborations, providing a variety of opportunities for students to get involved.  Each year, hundreds of students present their work at scientific conferences around the country and the world.

And each year, our graduates go on to pursue advanced training in medical or dental school, graduate studies, or educational licensure.  They enter the STEM workforce with the skills they need to continue to develop and thrive as scientists, mathematicians, health professionals, and teachers.
