Installing the VMware Horizon Client on Windows

  1. Visit JMU’s available software page.
  2. Click the Windows link next to VMware Horizon to download the installer.
  3. Sign in with your eID and password. Save the file if prompted.
  4. After the download is complete, double-click the VMware-Horizon…exe file in your Downloads folder
  5. If you are prompted to authenticate, enter your local computer administrator user name (.\eIDx) and password.
  6. Click Yes.
  7. The VMware Horizon setup box will appear. Click Agree & Install.
  8. Once the install has completed, VMware Horizon will require a restart. Click Restart Now.

For the next steps, you must be connected to JMU’s SSL VPN service. See SSL VPN for more information and installation instructions.

  1. Once the computer has restarted, launch the VMware Horizon Client.
  2. Click Add Server.
  3. In the dialog box, type it-conn1-vdi.ad.jmu.edu
  4. Click Connect.
  5. Enter your eID and password.
  6. Click Login.

Installing the VMware Horizon Client on Mac

  1. Visit JMU’s available software page.
  2. Click the MacOS link next to VMware Horizon to dowload the installer.
  3. Sign in with your eID and password. Save the file if prompted.
  4. After the download is complete, double-click the VMware-Horizon…dmg file in your Downloads folder.
  5. In the new VMware Horizon Client window, double-click VMware Horizon Client.pkg.
  6. Click Continue twice, then click Install.
  7. If you are prompted to authenticate, enter your local computer administrator user name (eIDx) and password.
  8. Click Close to complete the install.
  9. Click Move to Trash if prompted.
  10. Click OK.

  1. Double-click VMware Horizon Client.app in your Applications folder.
  2. If asked, “Are you sure you want to open it?” click Open.
  3. At the Login window, enter eID and password (the server is prepopulated).
  4. Click Login.
