Installing the VMware Horizon Client to log in to VDI on a Windows 10 computer

  1. Go to JMU’s software downloads page and click Windows under the VMware Horizon Client option
  2. Sign in with your eID and password. Save the file if prompted.
  3. After the download is complete, double-click the VMware-Horizon…msi file in your Downloads folder
  4. If you are prompted to authenticate, enter your administrator user name (.\eIDx) and your administrator password
  5. Click Yes
  6. The VMware Horizon setup box will appear. Click Agree & Install
  7. Once the install has completed, VMware Horizon will require a restart; click Restart Now

For the next steps, you must be connected to the JMU’s SSL VPN service. See Pulse Secure for more information and installation instructions.

  1. Once the computer has restarted, launch the VMware Horizon Client
  2. Click New Server
  3. In the dialog box, type it-conn1-vdi.ad.jmu.edu
  4. Click Connect
  5. Enter your eID and Password
  6. Click Login

Installing the VMware Horizon Client to log in to VDI on a Mac computer

  1. Go to JMU’s software downloads page and click Mac under the VMware Horizon Client option
  2. Sign in with your eID and password. Save the file if prompted.
  3. After the download is complete, double-click the VMware-Horizon…dmg file in your Downloads folder
  4. Review the license agreement then click Agree
  5. Drag the VMware Horizon Client icon into the Applications folder
  6. If you are prompted to authenticate, enter your administrator user name (eIDx) and your administrator password
  7. Click Authenticate
  8. Enter your administrator user name (eIDx) and your administrator password
  9. Click OK

  1. Double-click VMware Horizon Client.app in your Applications folder
  2. If asked, “Are you sure you want to open it?” click Open
  3. If prompted to Start remote USB and Printing services, click Continue
  4. If prompted, enter your administrator user name (.\eIDx) and your administrator password again
  5. Enter it-conn1-vdi.ad.jmu.edu as the name of the Connection Server
  6. Click Connect
  7. Enter your eID and Password
  8. Click Login
