ELED Global Concentration

The Elementary Education program offers a concentration in Global Education for Elementary Education majors with an interest in supporting students from around the world, teaching abroad, and/or bringing the world to your classroom wherever you are teaching. Enrollment opens each fall semester and is open to incoming first-year Elementary Education students. Coursework

Students enrolled in the concentration will take all the courses listed below.This concentration integrates global perspectives into required Elementary Education coursework—students meet core requirements while completing globally focused course equivalents.

Students enrolled in the Global Concentration will also participate in Intercultural Learning experiences during each year they are enrolled. See the JMU catalog for more information.

ELED 374: Children and Social Studies in a Global Context (3 cr)
LED 370: Writing Instruction, Assessment, and Technology for Multilingual and Culturally Diverse Learners (3 cr)
ELED 375: Seminar in Global Education Praxis I (1 cr)
ELED 475: Seminar in Global Education Praxis II (1 cr)
LED 473: Disciplinary Literacy for Diverse Classrooms in PK-6 Global Contexts (3 cr)

Global Concentration Faculty

The Early, Elementary, and Reading Education faculty who teach Global Concentration course all have active research programs that involve JMU undergraduates. Involvement in global education research is encouraged for students enrolled in the Global Concentration.
