Department Highlights
  • The College of Business (COB) is one of 2% of business schools with both business and accounting accreditation by AACSB-International (The Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business).
  • Our students consistently rank in the top 5% of schools nationwide for first time pass rate on the Certified Public Accountants exam. A post-graduation CPA exam review course is offered on campus every summer.
  • Two 2019 JMU M.S.A. graduates are recipients of the prestigious Elijah Watt Sells award, which is given to those who score above 95.50% on all four sections of the Uniform CPA examination and pass all four in their first attempt. They were two of only 110 test takers worldwide who qualified for the award this year out of the 86,000 that sat for the exam.
  • Each fall, the Meet the Firms event offers ACCT, FIN and CIS majors a unique opportunity to network with firms in a career fair format.
  • Additional networking opportunities are also provided to facilitate leads for externships and internships.
  • College Factual ranked JMU’s accounting program in the Top 5% for Highest Paid Grads.
  • JMU’s accounting program was ranked #21 out of 623 schools nationwide. This puts the school’s program in the Top 5% of all accounting programs in the U.S. according to College Factual.
  • Accounting students support the Voluntary Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program. They assisted over 450 low-income taxpayers in spring 2019
