Class of 2028
Minor: Math
Why did you become an ambassador? To encourage people of all backgrounds to pursue engineering despite the challenges they may face. Also, to educate younger students about the role of an engineer.
Why did you choose Engineering? For as long as I can remember, I've been extremely curious and have loved solving problems. I was interested in science and math, and I also enjoy being an artist. Engineering was a way for me to combine my skills as an artist with my love of science and math into one career.
What do you enjoy most about Engineering? I enjoy the freedom to explore different types of engineering. At first, I was set on strictly pursuing biomedical engineering, but with a general engineering program at JMU, I was able to explore other options. I am currently in a research lab in environmental engineering while being in an electromechanical systems concentration.
Have you had an internship, study abroad, or research experience you'd like to share? My first year at JMU I was in the Haynes Scholars Program. It is a Residential Learning Community open to all students but is focused on CSM and CISE students from underrepresented communities in STEM. As part of the program, we grouped up with our peers to do a research project on White-Nose Syndrome in North American Bats. My partner and I created NetLogo models to simulate the spread of White-Nose Syndrome and to show different methods to mitigate it. We presented at the VSU Annual Undergraduate Symposium.
What clubs, student organizations, or activities are you involved in? I am the DEI Chair of theta tau. I am also a member of both SWE and NSBE.
What is something you love to do outside of class? I love to draw and bake.
What is your favorite spot on campus? The quad and sensory room
