Mary Kasarda is an Associate Professor Emerita in the Virginia Tech Department of Mechanical Engineering (VTME) and is currently ABET BridgeTM Board of Directors President.
She was a faculty member at VTME from 1997-2024. She received her BS, MS, and PhD in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Virginia. She has five years of professional engineering experience, including work with Du Pont and Ingersoll Rand.
Her research areas include high-speed rotating machinery dynamics, active magnetic bearings, smart buildings, and engineering education. She has over 90 technical publications, and has been involved in securing over $2.0M in research funding from public and private sources during her time at VT.
She has served the ABET engineering accreditation organization on behalf of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) since 2005 in various roles. She is a Fellow of the ASME.
