The CHBS Launch & Learn series is designed to support faculty at all stages of the research process while fostering interdisciplinary collaboration within CHBS, as well as across campus, the community, and Commonwealth. 

Sessions will have varying formats, including roundtable discussion, faculty spotlights (where faculty share their research elevator pitch), and identify potential collaborators within and beyond CHBS.

Monthly meetings will be held from 12:00-1:00pm in HBS 5040 unless otherwise noted. Meeting dates include:

October 2 - Finding Collaborators: Faculty Research Spotlight 

• Faculty will submit a request to share about research interests/expertise
• Faculty deliver an elevator pitch to colleagues of their research to spark shared interest and identify interdisciplinary research collaborators

November 6 - Faculty Research Speed Networking

• Faculty pair up, use 90 seconds to share about their research to see if mutual interests exist; Switch partners
• Purpose: Faculty rotate through multiple sets of partners and quickly share their research to identify areas of shared interest and potential interdisciplinary research partners

December 4 - Identifying Community Partners Panel

• Faculty will engage with colleagues actively doing community-engaged research and develop new collaborations

January 15 - Research Roundtables: Identifying Research Collaborations

Topics:

• Developing interdisciplinary research collaborations
• Developing mutually beneficial community-engaged research 

February 5 - Research Roundtables: Community-Engaged Scholarship

• Community partners will be invited to participate in research roundtable discussions

March 5 - Research Roundtables: Collaborations beyond JMU

Topics:

• Developing collaborations across academic colleges
• Developing collaborations within the Commonwealth (e.g., Commonwealth AI Initiative, 4VA grants, etc.)

April 9 - CHBS Research Colloquium 

• Faculty and students share their research (poster presentations, rapid-fire oral presentations)
