Dean's Faculty Advisory Council
The Dean's Faculty Advisory Council will be comprised of at least one faculty member from each of the academic units within the College (to be selected by processes agreed upon within that unit) plus other faculty invited to serve by virtue of their service/leadership on other College level committees and groups. The Dean serves as a member of this body. The Chair of the Council shall be a faculty member selected by the Council. The Council will provide the Dean advice relative to the ongoing functioning and long range planning for the College, inclusive of program development and performance, resource allocation, policies and practices of the College, and the continuing evaluation of the College's progress. The Council is one means of ensuring faculty input into considerations and decision-making at the College level, and ensuring communication of information and perspectives to the faculty.
CHBS Student Ambassadors
The CHBS Student Ambassadors will be comprised of up to three (3) students from each of the academic units of the College; units may choose the number of students most appropriate to their respective unit goals/purpose. Each unit will select student representatives being careful to consider a diverse representation of various types of students. The CHBS Student Ambassadors serve: 1) as a means of assisting with college-wide events and initiatives; 2) by providing input to the Dean’s office regarding student perspectives and concerns.
Faculty Development Committee
The Faculty Development Committee is comprised of one faculty representative from each of the academic units in the College. Faculty serving on the Committee are not permitted to submit proposals for educational leave or research and teaching grants during their time of Committee service. The Faculty Development Committee solicits proposals for educational leaves, teaching grants and research grants, and then makes recommendations to the Dean regarding the funding of proposals. The Committee is also charged with selecting the College's Outstanding Teacher, Madison Scholar, and recipient of the Award for Outstanding Service from nominations forwarded by the individual academic units. Recommendations by the Committee come directly to the Dean for decisions.
Graduate Council
The Graduate Council is comprised of one representative from each of the academic units within the Collegeand the Associate Dean. The Dean serves as an ex officio member of the Council. The Graduate Council is charged with overseeing curricula matters of the graduate programs of the College. The Council is also charged with being proactive in working with interested, designated faculty early in the program conceptualization stage and being analytic in addressing the long-range benefits and costs involved in course and program development. The Council should seek to encourage and support curricular development congruent with the goals of the College and University. The Council will be active in facilitating discussion and sharing among all program coordinators. The Committee will accomplish its work by maintaining good communication with faculty regarding proposals, considerations, and decisions. The Council will make recommendations and report through the Associate Dean to the Dean.
IIHHS Innovation Collaborative
The IIHHS Innovation Collaborative unites the Institute leadership with representatives from each of the CHBS academic units as well as representatives from each JMU college and other JMU departments. The IIHHS Innovation Collaborative plays a critical role in advancing Institute initiatives to ensure that we meet the needs of our diverse stakeholders. In collaboration with staff and community members, Innovation Collaborative members contribute to developing and implementing innovative programs and initiatives that address the complex challenges facing our community. Their expertise and insights are vital in helping shape the future of IIHHS. We value diverse viewpoints and encourage open-mindedness, creativity, and flexibility in our approach to problem solving.
Inclusive Excellence Council
The College of Health and Behavioral Studies (CHBS) Inclusive Excellence Council comprises representatives from each academic unit. The council is committed to facilitating inclusionary practices among CHBS faculty, staff, and students. CHBS is committed to preparing future leaders and enlightened individuals who are educated in environments that utilize evidence-based inclusionary practices that support all individuals thriving within a supportive academic culture.
Interprofessional and Interdisciplinary Education (IPE and IDE) Council
The IPE and IDE Council facilitates the understanding and implementation of interprofessional and interdisciplinary education (IPE and IDE), research, and practice, and considers ways to strengthen CHBS IPE and IDE offerings so that faculty and students can develop knowledge, skills, and attitudes for collaborative practice.
Leadership Council
The CHBS Leadership Council is comprised of the Dean, the Associate Deans, the heads of each of the academic units of the College, and the Dean's Administrative Assistant. The Dean serves as chair of this body. The Council is a deliberative, decision-making body with the charge of administering the College in such a way as to achieve the goals of the College. As the administrative structure of the University is based on colleges and departments/ schools for the allocation, monitoring and reporting of resources (personnel, equipment, operating budget), the Leadership Council ensures fair and effective use of College resources, and serves as the vehicle for distributing and tracking resources within the College. The Council considers issues and conducts strategic planning within the context of the mission of the institution and the broader perspective of changes in higher education and the state of the Commonwealth. This Council ensures that decisions reflect full consideration of all aspects of the College including, not only the individual academic units, but also undergraduate and graduate academic programs, outreach programs, and research programs. The Council is also charged with planning and coordinating all official functions of the College and ensuring College representation at appropriate University events.
Undergraduate Curriculum Council
The Undergraduate Curriculum Council is comprised of one representative from each of the academic units within the College and the Associate Dean. The Associate Dean will chair the Council. The selection of the representatives is the prerogative of the academic unit and may or may not include the unit's head. The Undergraduate Curriculum Council continues in its role of overseeing curricular matters of the undergraduate programs of the College. However, this Council is also charged with being proactive in working with interested, designated faculty early in the program conceptualization stage and being analytic in addressing the long-range benefits and costs involved in course and program development. The Council should seek to encourage and support curricular development congruent with the goals of the College and University. The Council will be active in facilitating discussion and sharing among all program coordinators.
