Join us for our first ever Squirrel Fest!
September 19, 11am to 2pm
We welcome the JMU and local community to join us. Participate in the following ways:
- JMU or local organizations can host a squirrel-related activity or display. Contact Kelli Hertzler with your idea at gdxc5j@jmu.edu or (540) 568-3194.
- Volunteer on the day of the Squirrel Fest. Sign up here!
- Perform a squirrel-themed song or poem (originals encouraged!). Register here! (Lyrics must be family-friendly and submitted in advance.)
- Attend! It's free and registration is not needed to attend.
What we have planned:
- Arboretum tours (from the POV of a squirrel!)
- A squirrel-based Citizen Science project using iNaturalist
- Beatrix Potter's "Squirrel Nutkin" featured on our StoryWalk
- Open mic poetry/songs about squirrels at noon
- Educational exhibit of squirrels that live in the Arboretum (four species!)
- Special focus on our black squirrels
- Activity and display tables
