Our transfer student ambassadors are available to email or meet with new transfer students who would be interested in having a mentor during their first semester at JMU. You can ask them questions by email or set up one or more meetings. Learn more about mentoring.

Transfer Tailgates are events hosted for transfer students in conjunction with other important events happening on campus. Want to get to know other transfer students before Student Org Night and then walk to the big event together? We have a Transfer Tailgate for that! Want to attend a lunch and information session about how you can easily study abroad as a transfer student? Come to our Transfer Tailgate! Would you like to check in with our transfer team before meeting employers at the University Career Fair? We'll have a Transfer Tailgate table on site. We partner with the Office of Orientation and Transition to celebrate transfer students each fall for National Transfer Student Week. We offer free donuts in the Advising Hub each morning and other goodies and/or events at other times. We also host a Transfer Student Appreciation Week each spring. Both weeks are included on the Transfer Tailgate schedule and well-timed for students to connect with our transfer advisors before registering for classes.

Many JMU Dukes are proud to call themselves transfer students. In addition to hiring two transfer student ambassadors each year, we offer occasional opportunities for other students to serve as transfer leaders or panelists.
