Weeks of Welcome
The Transfer Initiatives team and student ambassadors are excited to greet you at Weeks of Welcome, which will include a transfer welcome breakfast, a transfer student success session, and an in-person group meeting with your new academic advisor. Many of the events you'll attend at Weeks of Welcome will be specific to transfer students. Don't think of this as an introduction to college, but as an important introduction to JMU! Plan to be on campus from 9 a.m.-5 p.m. on Monday and Tuesday of the week when classes start.
You can view the Weeks of Welcome schedule on the BeInvolved app. You may need to "Switch Hubs" to find Weeks of Welcome. The "More" widget will lead you to a menu where you can select "Transfer Students" and then either "Required Events" or "All Events."
Dukes Career Connections
Dukes Career Connections is a three-day pre-Weeks of Welcome experience just for incoming transfer students! It is hosted by the University Career Center with assistance from the Office of Transfer Initiatives. DCC usually runs Wednesday-Friday of the week prior to the start of classes, and it's a great opportunity to meet and make friends with other transfer students, develop your academic plan, get a jump-start on career planning, and connect with local employers and alumni. New Dukes 101 - Transfer Seminar
The New Dukes 101 transfer seminar is a 1-credit class offered during the fall semester for transfer students who want to get up to speed quickly on academic success, accessing resources, getting involved, and career planning at JMU. This class will focus on building your network at JMU, since you already know how to be successful at JMU (you proved that at your last college or university!). The class meets twice a week during the first seven weeks of the semester. You can register in MyMadison. Look for the section taught by Jolie Lewis.
