Procedures for Early Registration for Veterans and Military Service Members

JMU provides undergraduate students who are serving on active duty, members of the reserves or National Guard, and Veterans with other than a dishonorable discharge, with early registration status after their first semester enrollment. Dependents and spouses are not eligible for priority registration. Documentation of current or past military service (current GI Bill® recipients do not need to provide documentation) must be provided to a member of the Veteran Education team in the JMU Office of the Registrar for verification.

Acceptable documents include:

  • Veteran's DD 214 
  • Retired military identification card*
  • DMV issued veteran card*
  • Current military card – Reservists or National Guard*
  • Eligibility for GI Bill® (Certificate of Eligibility for Chapter 30, 33 and 1606)
  • Eligibility for Veteran Readiness and Employment benefits (Chapter 31)
  • Federal or State Tuition Assistance 
  • Military Orders

*If providing this proof, please see us so you can sign a document. We cannot copy your military ID card.

Deadlines:

Proof of military service must be received by:

  • February 15th for the upcoming Fall registration
  • September 15th for the upcoming Spring registration

Document Delivery:

  • Scan and email to veteran@jmu.edu(preferred).Must use JMU email account to submit documents
  • Fax to 540-568-5615
  • Drop off at the Office of the Registrar (Student Success Center 5th floor)
  • Mail to 738 South Mason Street MSC 3528, Student SSC 5300, Harrisonburg VA 22807
