Virginia's State Budget does impact availability

2 year obligation with VaARNG after last use of State Tuition

Below are the instruction on how to apply for state tuition.  You must have completed basic training before you can apply for state tuition and be a member is good standing.  You must also have two years remaining on your obligation to the Virginia National Guard. A new fiscal year (FY) promissory note must be signed and sent in to the education office before your application can be approved.  That can be down loaded from the website.  New state FY begins I July of each year. The promissory note only has to be done once per FY but the application needs to be filled out for each semester separately before the deadline date.

Approval amounts will depend on the program budget constraints set forth by the state.

IMPORTANT -LATE APPLICATIONS ARE DISAPPROVED

The deadline dates to submit state tuition are:

  • 1 July- fall semester
  • 1 November - spring semester
  • 1 April - summer semester

Grades must be turned within 30 days after each semester to Ms. Terri Stallings (terri.s.stallings.nfg@mail.mil /(434) 298-3020)

The website will be opened approximately 45 days before the deadline date for each semester separately and it will close promptly at midnight of the deadline date.  Applications must be turned in every semester before the deadline date. Late applications are disapproved.

Approximately one month after the deadline has passed, all applications will be processed and a roster sent of approved applicants to each school's student accounting office and to the authorized bookstore. When you (the student) go to get your books please ask for the bookstore manager and tell them you are in the Virginia National Guard and should be on their roster.  They will check it and you can charge text books only that pertain the classes you are taking that semester only, nothing else can be charged on that account.  Be sure not to go over the maximum amount authorized because we will not pay it.  If classes are dropped after the add/drop date or you receive a failing grade then we will recoup on the class and also for the books. Also if you do not serve the 2 years required after the last term for which we paid tuition and books on your behalf we will recoup.

If you have any flags you will be disapproved.  If you have below a 2.0 GPA, you will be disapproved.

You can always check on the status of your application by going back to the website and it will tell you if you have been approved and for how much you have been approved for.
