As JMU pursues the mission “to be the national model of the engaged university,” engaged scholarship is one way to actualize this vision and to equip faculty to balance work in and with communities with teaching and research responsibilities. Engaged scholarship holds the potential to transform the researcher and the world around her/him. Join a community of scholars to explore scholarship of engagement generally as well as to support one another in planning, drafting and publishing. This group will brainstorm or advance individual engaged scholarship projects as well as offer opportunities for peer review and feedback.

Faculty participants will make progress toward these program outcomes:

  • Exploring different types of engaged scholarship,
  • Advancing an engaged scholarship project, and
  • Building a network of engaged scholars on campus.

Faculty participants will make progress toward these scholarship outcomes:

  • Enhancing scholarly productivity,
  • Advancing scholarly skills, and
  •  Practicing the integration of scholarship with teaching and other career aspirations.
