The School of Art, Design, and Art History at James Madison University offers 5 Undergraduate Degree Majors, 7 B.F.A. in Art Concentrations, 4 Minors, a Master of Fine Arts, and a PK-12 Art Education Teaching Licensure program.
Undergraduate Degree Majors
The Bachelor of Fine Arts with a major in Architectural Design prepares students for graduate studies as well as entry-level positions in a variety of design fields including architecture, interior design, and landscape architecture.
The Art Major will engage students in an array of mediums, practices and intentionality as they create their art. The program offers three degree designations, B.F.A., B.A. or B.S. to allow students an opportunity to forge their own creative pathways.
The Bachelor of Arts with a major in Art History is intended for students who wish to study the history of the visual arts, including the cultural and social context in which they were created.
The Bachelor of Fine Arts with a major in Graphic Design is rooted in fundamental design principles, research, and applications while addressing current and emerging technologies through digital practice
The Bachelor of Science with a major in Industrial Design equips students with the creative problem solving skills necessary to become innovative design leaders.
Foundations
The Foundations program provides the beginning of a student's education with the following classes: Color & Composition, Form & Space, Observational Drawing and Expressive & Expanded Drawing. The strength and consistency of the Foundations curriculum provides the basic structure and preparation for all upper-level courses.
SADAH Minors
SADAH minors broaden understanding of the value and role of the visual arts in general culture, deepen appreciation for personal artistic production, and enhance creativity and ability to think independently.
PK–12 Art Education Teaching Licensure
The Art Education Licensure Program at James Madison University develops highly qualified PK-12 art educators who can develop and implement visual art content that is both meaningful and relevant to contemporary society. The success of the program is highlighted by a 100 percent placement rate for graduates.
Master of Fine Arts
The SADAH Master of Fine Arts Program will challenge and support independently motivated artists in their intellectual, philosophical and artistic development. The graduate program encourages lifelong learning, career success and community involvement.
