The Secret Lives of Objects
Speaker: Tae Jin Kim, D.F.A., Professor and Chair of Painting, Kookmin University, Seoul, Korea
Date and Time: Wednesday, February 11, 2026, 5 p.m.
Location: Duke Hall Gallery Court
This lecture explores the ‘paths of artistic creation’ by navigating the ontological fissures between objects and their assigned functions. Through a lens of Object-Oriented Ontology (OOO), we examine how everyday items and digital media transcend their utility to reveal a secret, vibrant life of their own. By analyzing diverse creative methodologies—from deconstructed textiles to mechanical murmurs—participants will discover how to witness and manifest the independent narratives of the non-human world.
