Task Force Role:

Leadership Council Member

Liaison to the Instructional Faculty Professional Development Working Group

Why I want to serve on the Task Force:

I have been part of the various JMU task forces on diversity since 2004 and I am aware of the changes that those efforts have contributed to changing the institution for the better. There is sufficient literature and data that affirm the value of diversity to excellence in education.

Students and faculty benefit from the difference perspectives in course contents that diversity brings. As an institution that aims to prepare our students to be global citizens, we cannot afford but to embrace the values of diversity, equity, and social justice. I am interested in serving on the task force because I have experiences that can contribute to enriching our conversations and recommendations.

Top three values I bring to this work:

Culture of diversity in teaching & research

Core qualities that inform institutional faculty hiring, mentoring and curriculum development and implementation

Community engagement through collaborative actions
