Professor Shearer's research interests include public and political theology, Post-Theism, Wesleyan thought, and the work of Dorothee Soelle and P. T. Forsyth. His recent work is in the field of theopoetics, holiness, and the demonic.

Currently, Professor Shearer is researching the experience of divine presence and its relationship to the transformation of people, communities, and public life.

He currently serves as a United Methodist minister in Orange County, Va., after having pastored a church in rural Pennsylvania.

Outside of theology, pastoring, and teaching Professor Shearer loves to spend time with his family, eat fine cheeseburgers, and talk to anyone who will listen about the wonders of Professional Wrestling.
