A Letter From The Director
Dear Graduates, Parents, Faculty, and Guests,
Each year when we celebrate commencement, I relish the opportunity to hear about the experiences that you, our graduates, have had in the Adult Degree Program. Folks have shared stories with me about pushing through challenges and life changes in pursuit of their education that fill me with pride and hope. I am reminded each time that the value of a high-quality education is economic and cultural. But even more than that, it’s personal. The opening of oneself to new ideas, skills, and challenges, and changing your mind when new evidence is presented. This is work that is critically important for modern learners, as it has been for countless generations of students and teachers before us. I am thankful you have chosen this pursuit.
As you leave today as JMU alumnae, know that we are always here to support you, and can’t wait to hear how you use and develop the incredible education you now possess. On behalf of the ADP staff and faculty, I wish you all the success you dream of.
Daniel Robinson
ADP Program Director
A Letter From The Dean
Dear Graduates, Parents, Faculty, and Guests,
Commencement is always one of my favorite moments of the year, and today is no exception. This celebration marks far more than the completion of a program — it reflects your persistence, your sacrifices, and the countless late nights and early mornings you pushed through to get here. Balancing school with work, family, and everything life throws your way is challenging, yet you showed up again and again with determination and heart.
Earning your degree through the Adult Degree Program says something powerful about who you are. You embraced the challenge of learning at this stage of life, and in doing so, you’ve set an example for your families, your colleagues, and all of us at the School of Professional & Continuing Education. You remind us what it truly means to be a lifelong learner. As you step into your next chapter, know that the JMU community stands behind. you. You carry forward the strength of your experiences, the value of a Madison education, and the momentum you’ve built along the way — and I have no doubt you will continue to accomplish remarkable things.
Congratulations, and welcome proudly into the Duke alumni family. I’m excited to see where your journey leads from here.
Dr. Nick Swartz
Dean
