Pianist Esther Nyberg is widely acknowledged for her brilliant, deeply felt, and intense musicality. Equally inspiring as a soloist and vocal and instrumental collaborative artist, Ms. Nyberg has performed in the United States and Europe at Carnegie Weill Recital Hall, Chicago Orchestra Hall, Kennedy Center Millenium Stage, American Institute for Musical Studies in Graz, Mozarteum International Summer Academy, Gilmore International Keyboard Festival, International Music Academy Orpheus, Chicago Cultural Center, Harris Theater for Music and Dance, and Cremona International Music Academy, among others.  

She is a winner of many competitions and awards, including the Outstanding Lieder Collaborative Pianist Prize at AIMS in Graz, Skokie Valley Symphony Orchestra Young Artist Competition, Chicago College of Performing Arts Concerto Competition, Cremona International Music Academy Piano Competition, Crain-Maling CSO Young Artist Competition, MSMTA Elizabeth R. Davis Memorial Competition, the Farwell Trust Award of the Musicians Club of Women, and the Arthur J. and Glenna B. Collins Award of the American Opera Society of Chicago.  

Ms. Nyberg is an adjunct faculty member at James Madison University and the Shenandoah Valley Preparatory Music Program and currently serves as secretary for the Harrisonburg Music Teachers Association. As a JMU study-abroad intern, she traveled to London, UK, where she assisted in the Schools’ Matinees Project of Opera Holland Park’s Inspire program and worked with Ealing Music Service for their showcase concert, Ealing Together: Harmony in Diversity, at the Royal Albert Hall. This past summer, she taught English Language Arts to underserved youth at Chicago’s Metro Achievement Center.  

Esther Nyberg holds a Bachelor of Music degree from The Catholic University of America and a Master of Music degree from Roosevelt University’s College of Performing Arts, where she also received the Graduate Performance Diploma as the Rudolph Ganz Memorial Scholarship recipient. She recently earned a Doctor of Musical Arts degree in Piano Performance, Pedagogy, and Literature from James Madison University. Her principal teachers include Gabriel Dobner, Ludmila Lazar, Ivo Kaltchev, Whe Do Kim, and Denis Moffat.   

At JMU, Ms. Nyberg was a finalist in the Concerto/Aria Competition and participated in the Bach Aria Group and Contemporary Music Festival. Together with saxophonist Anthony Cincotta, she was selected to perform a recital celebrating underrepresented composers at The College Music Society National Conference in Spokane, Washington.
