You can support the University Writing Center and the JMU Learning Centers more broadly by donating to the JMU Learning Centers' Foundation account.
The Foundation account link above invites you to support the Learning Centers as a whole or to ask that your donation be directed to a specific JMU Learning Center center or even to a specific purpose.
JMU's Writing Lab opened in 1974. Betty Hoskins was joined by Nancy Farrar and Mary McMurray in 1976 and 1977, respectively. In 1998, the newly renamed Reading and Writing Resource Center moved to Wilson Hall. The UWC welcomed its first graduate consultant in 2006–2007 and its first team of undergraduate consultants in 2007–2008. In Fall 2014, we began helping JMU writers in our current Student Success Center home.
In the photo collage to the right, we continue to add photos of most of our UWC team from the past 50+ years. We know we're missing photos for a few of our people, particularly from our first 35 years or so, and you can help.
If you've worked in the UWC as a tutor, consultant, intern, graduate assistant, faculty member, librarian or faculty associate, or staff member over the past 50 years, zoom in to see a bunch of a familiar faces!
