What is the Grow Your Own Teaching Fellows program?

The Grow Your Own Teaching Fellows (GYO TF) program is an invitation-only program designed for a select group of admitted JMU students (GYO Campus TF) or those working in schools (GYO Paraprofessional TF) who are interested in becoming early childhood, elementary education, or special education teachers.

JMU and the College of Education are excited about this new opportunity for future teachers and are committed to providing students with the educational experiences for success. You will find detailed information on this website, but below is an overarching summary.

Program Overview

  • Select students are invited to join the GYO Teaching Fellows by the JMU College of Education
  • Those who are interested, complete the application form in Madison Scholarships Hub
  • Once accepted, students sign a service agreement agreeing to teach in the "home district" for two years after graduation
  • Students are assigned an academic advisor as well as GYO Faculty Liaison who will support them in accessing learning resources at JMU to help them successfully begin their academic career

We invite you to browse through the website for detailed information.
