Program Requirements

The Campus Teaching Fellows program scholarship/loan award recipients receive financial assistance and the opportunity to grow academically, professionally, and as an individual. Students must have attended high school in one of the participating districts to be eligible. Those districts are Harrisonburg City, Rockingham County, Frederick County, Warren County, Petersburg, Virginia Beach City, Page County and Portsmouth City Schools. The requirements are listed below. This program provides a multifaceted support system that monitors all students in the program, while still holding them accountable for their development throughout their time at JMU.

Students must adhere to the following requirements to remain in the program.

Grade Point Average (GPA)

Campus Teaching Fellows are required to maintain a minimum overall GPA of 2.5 and an in-major GPA of 3.0 to remain in the program as well as meet other teacher education requirements.

Campus Teaching Fellows will take several classes together as a group such as EDUC 200 and EXED 200.

Small and Large Group Meetings

Each Campus Teaching Fellow will meet with other students in the program both in small and large group meetings.

One-on-One Meetings

All Campus Teaching Fellows are required to meet with the Executive Director of the Grow Your Own Initiative, Dr. Joy Myers, once a semester every year they participate in the program.
