The following policies help ensure a safe, respectful, and productive environment for students, faculty, staff, visitors, and event participants. Please review the policies that apply to your use of the CoB Learning Complex.
General Building Policies
- Behavior that interferes with a safe, pleasant, respectful and productive environment is prohibited.
- Guests who fail to comply with CoB policies may be asked to modify their conduct or leave the building. Campus security may be summoned if necessary.
- Violations of University policy, facility policy, state and/or federal laws may result in the loss of reservation privileges and cancellation of existing reservations.
- Parking in any service, accessible, or fire lanes is strictly prohibited.
- Keys must be issued by the JMU Lock Shop, and a request must be submitted by the Building Coordinator. JAC card access will be granted upon hiring or by special request to the Building Coordinator or the Technology Manager.
Events & Reservations
- The sponsoring organization of an event is responsible for the actions of all guests and participants, as well as ensuring that the maximum room capacity is not exceeded at any time.
- Food and beverage arrangements for events on campus must be coordinated through the Special Events Catering Office (540-568-6637). Non-catered food requires approval from JMU Dining Services.
- If the University is closed for any reason, all events scheduled in the building will be canceled.
Safety & Security
- Weapons, fireworks, explosives and dangerous items are prohibited within the building and on all University property.
- Tampering with fire systems, fire alarms or firefighting equipment is prohibited.
- Open flames, including candles and incense, are prohibited in these facilities.
- Pathways to exits are to always be open and clear. No tables or obstructions are to be set across exit doors for any reason. Aisles are to always remain clear.
- Alcohol is prohibited within the building unless it is provided at an approved University event.
- Electronic cigarettes, vaporizers and tobacco products cannot be used inside.
- Extension cords and space heaters are prohibited in the building.
- Animals are not allowed inside the building unless they are a documented service animal.
Study Rooms
- Study rooms are intended for groups of three or more individuals and are available on a first-come, first-serve basis.
Flexible Classroom Furniture
- Furniture in classrooms with flexible configurations may be moved; however, users who alter the arrangements should return the furniture to the original layout posted in the room.
Furniture in Public Spaces
- Furniture, including chairs and other seating around public space should not be moved from its designated space.
Food & Beverages
- Only water in a sealed water bottle is permitted in classrooms, study rooms, or any carpeted spaces.
Posting, Solicitation & Signage
- No solicitation is allowed inside or outside the building. Fundraising or the sale of goods or services must be approved by the Building Coordinator and all applicable University departments.
- University posting policy must be followed. The CoB Learning Complex does not have bulletin boards; instead, we encourage the use of digital signage.
- No flyers, banners, or other items may be displayed or taped in common areas of the building. Unauthorized materials will be removed and discarded.
Lost and Found
- Lost and found items can be turned in to the Building Manager (HART 3023) on the third floor. Items are kept for a minimum of 60 days before being transferred to Fixed Assets and Surplus Property.
