Admissions FAQs

The BSN–Fast Flex is a restricted pathway and requires a secondary application for admission. Transfer students must complete one full-time semester at JMU and meet other admission criteria prior to application.

JMU has a policy that does not allow students who already have a bachelor’s degree enroll in a second bachelor’s degree program.

The BSN–Fast Flex offers conditional admission to 30 students once per year in the summer.

A small number of students may be placed on a wait list. Students on the wait list are offered conditional admission if a student declines or becomes ineligible for admission.

Students whose pre-requisite course GPA falls below a 3.0 prior to enrollment in nursing are no longer qualified for admission. Students must have a pre-requisite course GPA of 3.0 to apply to the BSN–Fast Flex and must maintain a pre-requisite course GPA of 3.0 between the time of conditional admission and pathway entry. Students may reapply for the next admissions cycle when the GPA criterion is met.

Technical standards are basic physical, cognitive, and psychosocial skills and abilities that are required for nursing practice. The technical standards guide students about the skills and abilities required in nursing to make an informed decision regarding nursing as a career. Students must be able to meet the technical standards to complete a BSN in the School of Nursing. View the Technical Standards.

Qualified applicants who are declined admission may submit a formal appeal. The appeal should provide evidence of extenuating circumstances that affected academic performance. Appeal an Admission Decision.
Application FAQs

For the purposes of the application, community service must be part of a formal organization (Examples of a formal organization include but are not limited to: United Way, United Methodist Church or local affiliate, SRMH axillary). As long as the JMU Registrars’ office has received a transcript and awarded the applicant credit for a prerequisite course, they don’t need to send another transcript.  However, if an applicant has taken a course at an outside college/university and retaken that course at the same outside college/university, an official transcript must be submitted electronically to BSN-FastFlex@jmu.edu. Please note that transcripts that are emailed pdfs or scanned copies will not be accepted.

May 19, 2026 is the deadline for final grades for the summer 2026 application cycle, allowing for spring class grades to be finalized.  Transcripts received after the due date will not be considered.

This is a limitation of the application software.  The verifications are placed at the end of the application to assist applicants.  Uploading verification forms in order should be the last thing the applicant completes before signing.  Be aware that if you navigate backward, you will need to re-upload forms.

Use your legal permanent home address and not your JMU address.

One requirement to apply is to complete one full-time semester at JMU. For BSN–Fast Flex applicants, spring semester counts as your full-time semester.

Also, refer to the Transfer Credit Report in MyMadison Student Center for course equivalencies.  Prospective transfer students can use Transferology to determine how their courses will transfer.

Repeat Forgive: Only the second attempt of taking the course is used in the GPA calculation, but both grades remain on your transcript. Students only have two repeat forgive opportunities during their time at JMU. MyMadison will default to repeat credit if you do not choose a repeat option.

Repeat Credit: Both attempts of taking the course are used in the GPA calculation, and both grades remain on your transcript.

JMU allows two repeat-forgive credit options. This option must be selected when registering for courses. Students who earn a grade of “D” or lower may choose to use a repeat-forgive to retake the course. Students are encouraged to meet with their academic advisor prior to registration.
