Break Description

Nestled in the Blue Ridge Mountains, communities across Western North Carolina face unique challenges when it comes to housing stability. Aging homes, economic hardship, and the impact of severe weather have left many families in need of safe, affordable places to live. The Fuller Center Disaster ReBuilders, a faith-driven nonprofit, has been walking alongside these communities for years, offering hope and practical support by repairing and rebuilding homes for those who need it most.
During our visit to Black Mountain, we’ll help with construction and repair projects such as painting, installing flooring or drywall, and adding finishing touches that make a house feel like home. Each project helps create a lasting foundation for families to thrive while deepening our understanding of housing equity and community resilience in rural Appalachia.
Be ready for active, physical work that may include lifting, bending, and using tools, but no construction experience is required. Bring your curiosity, teamwork, and flexibility, as each day’s projects may look a little different depending on community needs.
Evenings will offer time to cook together, share reflections, and connect with local residents and volunteers who are helping build stronger, more connected communities across the mountains of Western North Carolina.
