JEREMIAH MORRIS (BFA 2015, Studio Art - Photography)

Jeremiah Morris is an interdisciplinary photographic artist from Mount Crawford, VA. Since graduating from James Madison University in 2015 with his B.F.A. in Studio Art with a concentration in photography, Jeremiah has worked to create a space for and facilitate the appreciation of small towns as centers of cultural engagement through his creation of Specto Art Space. Specto is a contemporary gallery space located in Bridgewater, VA which creates exhibition opportunities for photographers, graphic designers, and digital artists working around the world. Since opening, Specto has awarded more than $2000 to artists, and exhibited hundreds of artists from around the world.

Morris’ personal work explores the intersection of photography as art making tool, document of record, sentimental object, and historical artifact. His work dissects the role of photography in our society as it shifts in the modern world. His most recent series, SYMBIOSIS was featured in the emerging gallery of the Strathmore mansion in Bethesda, MD, and will be on view in the VMFA Fellows Winner Exhibition at the Hayloft Gallery in Floyd, VA from June 9th to August 6th, 2018.
