Undergraduate Program: How to Apply
Thank you for your interest in the School of Art, Design, and Art History!
Our process is unique in that students interested in majoring in Architectural Design, Graphic Design, Industrial Design, or Studio Art must submit a portfolio through SlideRoom in addition to James Madison University's application process.
Students intending to major in art history are not required to submit a portfolio or additional materials for review, but should follow the regular JMU admissions process.
To learn more, please select the appropriate subpage from the left-side menu.
Students wishing to be considered for a scholarship to SADAH are required to attend an on-campus Portfolio Review Day and submit additional materials through Slideroom. Please submit online through your Slideroom portfolio:
- A digital copy of your arts resume
- One letter of recommendation from an arts professional
- A digital image of one work of art with an accompanying 500-word essay describing how their choice demonstrates their qualifications for a scholarship.
OFF CAMPUS PORTFOLIO FEEDBACK SESSIONS:
Portfolio Feedback Sessions are held throughout the Fall semester for prospective students to meet our faculty and gain professional feedback on their physical portfolio prior to applying to the School of Art, Design and Art History. The School of Art, Design and Art History participates in two off-campus portfolio review days in addtion to those offered at our campus in Harrisonburg:
- Off Campus Sessions
JMU faculty will be attending these events to give feedback on portfolios submitted by prospective freshmen. You can complete the on-line rsvp form here.
