We know that happy minds thrive. And a beautiful setting with a supportive, active community fosters learning. When you come to campus, you’ll see how student life and campus involvement are a big deal here.

Living on Campus

Our students come from major cities and small towns. They come from Virginia and 45 other states, and they hail from more than 50 different countries.

JMU quickly feels like home for all students because this is a friendly community of learners that holds doors for one another, that is eager to meet new people, grab lunch between classes and even try a new fitness hobby. With so many rich offerings on campus, you are sure to find a home here.

Clubs and Organizations

Participation in clubs and organizations is a great way to relieve stress, find new friends and discover new ways of thinking. The options run the gamut at JMU because we know that participating in clubs helps a student with many facets of his or her outside-the-classroom preparation for life.

From community service organizations to special interests, you are sure to find your people here.

Campus Diversity

JMU’s inclusive campus community comes together as one thanks in part to the 33 educational and celebratory programs operated by our Center for Multicultural Students Services. Areas of interest include culturally based sororities and fraternities, religion, academics, civic engagement opportunities and more. CMSS is truly a gateway to engagement with diversity at JMU.

Spirit and Traditions

Here at JMU, we bleed purple and gold – school spirit is a huge part of the Madison Experience. Whether you’re proudly taking selfies with Duke Dog at a football game or holding a door for a fellow Duke, you’ll see why there is so much JMU love to go around.

Campus is full of long-standing traditions that connect Dukes across generations, and the best tradition is leaving campus with a fulfilling and memorable experience.
