Instructional Faculty

JMU offers a comprehensive benefits package to all full-time Administrative & Professional Faculty members.  The university currently offers health, dental and vision insurance, long-term disability insurance, life insurance, flexible-spending accounts, and retirement plans as core benefits to eligible employees.  In addition, JMU provides other benefits and services to help enhance employee work-life wellness.

Benefits are an important part of your total compensation package, and enrollment is an integral part of the new employee onboarding process.  In order to maximize the benefits available to you and ensure timely enrollment, please complete the steps below.

Step 1:  Review the benefits letter and packet that you received at your onboarding session

During your session to complete new hire documents with the Onboard Specialist, you will be given a benefits letter and packet.

Step 2:  View the online benefits videos and complete the Benefits Acknowledgement Form

This comprehensive online benefits orientation will answer many of your benefits questions and set the stage for your one-on-one enrollment session with a Benefits Specialist.  The entire presentation will take about 60 minutes and is broken down into easy-to-use modules that you can view as your time allows. The videos will familiarize you with all the different benefits options available to you and aid you in deciding which options are best for you. You may want to have your benefits package with you as the material is reviewed in the videos.

The online benefits videos are best viewed on a PC, Mac or IPad.  Should you need assistance or accommodations in viewing the content, please contact the Benefits Team.

Step 3: Set up an appointment with a Benefits Specialist to complete your benefits enrollment

Once Human Resources receives notification of your hire and start date from the department, you will be sent an email with a link from the Benefits Team to schedule your one-on-one appointment with a Benefits Specialist.  As soon as you receive this email, please promptly schedule your appointment. New employees must complete their benefits enrollment within 30 days of employment.

During this 45-minute session, you will complete all required benefits enrollment documents.

In order to maximize your 45-minute appointment and allow time to answer your questions, please make sure that you have viewed the online benefits orientation video before you meet with a Benefits Specialist to complete your enrollment paperwork.   Failure to do so will result in having to re-schedule your appointment in order to provide the best customer service to all of our employees.

Step 4: Bring your benefits packet with you to your one-on-one enrollment session with the Benefits Specialist

Step 5: During your first 60 days of employment, familiarize yourself with these other benefits offered at JMU
