Lauren Shutt (she, her, hers) is one of two Graduate Assistants for Health and Wellness Promotion. While this is her first year as a Graduate Assistant, Lauren began her UREC journey as an undergraduate student in 2020, first as a Marketing Assistant and then progressing to a Marketing Specialist in 2021. In her current role she is responsible for the hosting, recording and producing of UREC’s Podcast, Well Dukes, as well as oversight of all of JMU’s Safer Sex Stations.

Lauren graduated from James Madison University in Spring 2022 with a Bachelor of Science in Communication Studies with a concentration in Organizational Communication and a minor in Writing, Rhetoric and Technical Communication. She is now pursing her graduate degree in Sport and Recreation Leadership. In addition to her studies, Lauren has been involved in the National Intramural-Recreational Sports Association (NIRSA) since 2021 and currently serves as a Student Seat on the NIRSA Assembly.

Lauren was born and raised in Fauquier County, Virginia. When she is not at UREC, she loves spending time with friends and family, traveling, collecting and listening to music, reading, writing, spending time outdoors and cheering on her favorite sports teams, the Washington Capitals, New England Patriots and Boston Red Sox. Her favorite thing about UREC is getting to work with the most amazing people in the world and she can’t wait to do it for the next two years. Go Dukes!
