Description
Duties:
We are looking for a patient, energetic, and reliable caregiver for our 7-year-old twins, both on the autism spectrum. This is a great opportunity for students looking for experience in special education, speech therapy, or behavioral health! Active Engagement: Provide 2-on-1 supervision, engage in playtime, and maintain a supportive, structured environment. Personal Care: Assist one child with diapering/toileting needs. Pet-Friendly: Must be comfortable around animals (we have two dogs and one cat; no pet care required). We’d love someone open to staying with us through the summer and upcoming school years (not required).
Job Requirements:
Clean background check, Experience with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) or developmental disabilities is a huge plus. Patient, clear communicator, and adaptive to neurodivergent needs. Comfortable assisting one child with diapering and hygiene. Reliable transportation to our home.
Additional Information:
This role covers childcare gaps when Harrisonburg City Schools are open, but Augusta County Schools are closed. Average Commitment: 1–2 days per month (usually Mondays or Tuesdays; dates given well in advance), plus occasional optional date nights. Commute: Located in Weyers Cave, VA, an easy 15-20 minute drive from JMU’s campus. Professional Growth: An ideal resume-builder for EXED, CSD, or Nursing majors looking for hands-on, in-home experience. Salary
$18–$25/hr (depending on experience, special needs skills, and flexibility).
