Duties:

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  1. Lead a class of children in a manner consistent with the philosophy and the goals of the Center.
  2. Treat each child with dignity and respect.
  3. Plan engaging activities for children of varying ages and interests.
  4. Recognize and consider the individual needs of each child.
  5. Be responsible for the arrangement, décor and environment in the classroom. Be responsible for the upkeep of materials and equipment.
  6. Ensure the safety of all the children assigned to your care at all times, through constant supervision.
  7. Use appropriate and positive discipline with each child to help develop self-control and responsibility for his/her actions.
  8. Be familiar with licensing requirements and make sure the classrooms are in compliance.
  9. Maintain the records that are required by Center policy.
  10. Maintain strict confidentiality regarding children and their families.
  11. Maintain professional conduct and attitudes in working with parents and staff as well as volunteers, participants in the Adult Day Care Center, visitors and the general public.

Job Requirements:

GENERAL: All staff members must be of good character and reputation; competent, qualified and capable of carrying out assigned responsibilities; willing and able to accept training and supervision; considerate, understanding and respectful of children, elderly and disabled persons; clean and well groomed; able to communicate effectively in English; able to meet the requirements for a Criminal Record Check and able to meet requirements for TB screening.

EDUCATION: Must have a high school diploma or equivalent, and experience working with children in a group setting. Must have received, be in the process of receiving or be willing and able to receive some classroom training in the education and development of young children. Must have a current certification in CPR and First Aid, or be willing and able to obtain both during orientation period.

Additional Informaiton:

There would be the opportunity to get additional hours by substituting in different classrooms. Full day work in the school age classroom would also be available on days that Rockingham County Schools are closed.
