The Wharf Parking Lot: REIMAGINED
For the past two years, junior-level architectural design students at James Madison University have been reimagining the Wharf Parking Lot as a place of connection, resilience, and gathering. This exhibition brings together work from the spring 2024 and spring 2025 studios. Students explored strategies to mitigate flooding while also centering human needs and fostering community connection. Their design process was strengthened by meaningful input from members of the Lewis Creek Watershed Advisory Committee, as well as feedback from city council members, city staff, and engaged community members.
We invite you to join us for an opening reception to hear from students about the project on Saturday, February 7 from 4:00-6:00 pm.
On Saturdays February 14 & 21, we will be hosting community workshops from 1:00-3:00 pm and we want to hear from you to help shape the conversation as we imagine the future of this site together.
All events are free and open to the public. Thank you to the Staunton Augusta Art Center for hosting this exhibition.
