Research and teaching:
Elliott Niblock studies the philosophy of religion and early twentieth century German-Jewish intellectual history. His dissertation, Saying You to the Wreckage of History, brought Martin Buber's famous dialogical paradigm of I-Thou to bear on Walter Benjamin's philosophy of history, carving out a relational concept of history. He completed his dissertation and his PhD in Jewish Studies at the University of Virginia in 2025. He remains interested in the philosoph of history, the history of religion, modern Jewish thought, and poetry and religion. At JMU, Niblock teaches Religion 102: Religion, Spirituality and the Meaning of Life.
